Baptism

What We Believe

We believe that baptism symbolises leaving the past behind and embracing the new life we have in Jesus. It is a public confession of your love for Jesus and desire to follow Him and it is a decision to keep a clear conscience before God.

Why Baptism?

1. We celebrate life-change through forgiveness

‘…Have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.’

Romans 6:3b-4 (NLT)

2. We remember Christ’s burial and resurrection

‘That’s what baptism into the life of Jesus means. When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus’

Romans 6:4 (MSG)

3. We follow the example of Jesus

‘Go out and train everyone you meet, far and near, in this way of life, marking them by baptism in the threefold name: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Then instruct them in the practice of all I have commanded you.’

Matthew 28:18-19 (MSG)

4. We agree to maintain a clear conscience

‘The waters of baptism do that for you (save you), not by washing away dirt from your skin but by presenting you through Jesus’ resurrection before God with a clear conscience’

1 Peter 3:21 (MSG)

5. We demonstrate we are one of the family

‘But we have all been baptised into Christ’s body by one Spirit, and we have all received the same Spirit.’

1 Corinthians 12:13 (NLT)

6. We expect to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit

‘As soon as they heard of it, they were baptized in the name of the Master Jesus. Paul put his hands on their heads and the Holy Spirit entered them. From that moment on, they were praising God in tongues and talking about God’s actions.’

Acts 19:5-6 (MSG)
